The entitlement to portability of long service leave comes from the <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.slp.wa.gov.au\/statutes\/regs.nsf\/Current%20Legislation%20Version2?OpenView&#038;Start=1&#038;Count=600&#038;Expand=70&#038;RestrictToCategory=L#70\">Local Government (Long Service Leave) Regulations<\/a><\/em> and has general application across all Local Governments in WA.  The entitlement to portability of sick leave arises from the two main Local Government Awards, the <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.fwa.gov.au\/consolidated_awards\/AT\/AT787011\/asframe.html\">Local Government Officers&#8217; (WA) Award 1999<\/a><\/em> and the <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.fwa.gov.au\/consolidated_awards\/AT\/AT788039\/asframe.html\">Municipal Employees (WA) Award 1999<\/a>,<\/em> which may not have such wide application across Local Government in WA, depending upon whether the Local Government in question is a National System Employer for the purposes of the <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.fwa.gov.au\/index.cfm?pagename=legislationfwact\">Fair Work Act 2009<\/a><\/em>.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>We have published an article on these issues in response to a query from a client and have given a series of examples that will assist you to determine your rights and responsibilities in relation to portable leave entitlements in Local Government.
